Since Eindhoven decided in 2021 to significantly expand the number of woonwagenplekken in the city, no progress has been made. There has been no net increase in the number of spots, and some locations have even disappeared.
Eindhoven currently has fourteen woonwagenlocaties with a total of 159 places, a decrease from 163 three years ago. The planned closure of the notorious woonwagenkamp at Heezerweg continues to overshadow the expansion efforts.
Despite the need for 211 standplaatsen due to high demand and long waiting lists, the allocated funds for the expansion remain largely unused as the city focuses on garnering support.
Legal hurdles have also delayed the expansion, with the need to address illegal situations and obtain court orders for the removal of unauthorized woonwagens that have been present for years.
Eindhoven is working on adding new standplaatsen at locations like Anconalaan and Orgelplein, facing challenges in reaching agreements with current residents.
While progress is being made, additional standplaatsen are still awaited, with construction delays pushing back the expected completion date.
Despite efforts to enhance woonwagenlocaties, Eindhoven continues to navigate through obstacles to achieve its expansion goals.
